墨による抽象画で知られる美術家、篠田桃紅氏のこれまで一般公開されることのなかった１９６０年代から２０１７年までの作品２５点を展示します。１９１３年に中国、大連に生まれ書家としての道を歩み、戦後に渡米した後は書の形や意味にとらわれない新たな水墨抽象表現を確立しました。当時から海外にて広く評価を得て、２００５年にはニューズウィークの「世界が尊敬する日本人１００人」に選ばれました。およそ１００年に渡る篠田桃紅さんの画業をぜひご高覧ください。

Some exhibitions are staged to show an artist’s progress, others are to keep the artist’s clients interested in his work. In the case of Toko Shinoda, who has been an artist for almost 100 years, and who has experienced myriad exhibitions, anything that she wishes to exhibit is of interest to those who are taken with her talent. This exhibition is quite special because it does not contain a single new painting! It is a retrospective of some of Miss Shinoda’s greatest works which have been gathered by The Tolman Collection and never been shown to the public before.
