Junichi Ikeda was born in Osaka, Japan, in 1982. He studied printmaking at Osaka University of Arts, where he also completed his MFA. After graduating, he continued his artistic practice while working as an assistant to Masahiko Tsubota, a distinguished artist and former professor at the university. Ikeda has since exhibited both in Japan and internationally, including exhibitions in South Korea and the United States, and regularly presents his work at galleries in Japan.
Ikeda’s works generate a palpable sense of tension and spatial depth through the dense accumulation of individual hand-crafted marks. In his copperplate prints, rather than following conventional techniques, he engages directly with the metal itself. Through this physical intervention, he brings to the surface the material’s latent plasticity and the accumulation of time, rendering them visible on a single sheet of paper.
These sustained practices have garnered critical attention, and through continued exhibition, Ikeda steadily deepens his artistic practice while extending both the scope and precision of his work.
