I have been asked by people “ Why Sushi ?” I have created woodblock print with mainly food as a motif.
When I made that print of “Sushi”, I was looking for a theme which could fit with my favorite technique “water-based woodblock” and that was “Sushi,” that matched the color and shape I wanted to work with. I did not draw it directly but with a sense of distance to let the woodblock intervene. I chose a three dimensional motif that would startle the viewer. I want to create work that will delight and surprise people, the same way that I enjoy my work.
