On the day of the bell memorial service at Dōjōji Temple in Kishu Hidaka, a shirabyōshi dancer named Hanako arrives from the capital and asks to pay homage to the temple bell.
Although the temple is strictly off-limits to women, the young monks are captivated by her beauty and allow her to enter on the condition that she performs a dance for the ceremony.
Hanako begins her dance, but gradually reveals an unsettling fixation on the bell. Her obsession soon starts to take shape, and she ultimately transforms into a serpent.
