Biography
Hideo Hagiwara is one of the representative artists of contemporary Japanese printmaking. Within the trends of post-war Japanese art, he utilized a diverse range of techniques including lithography, woodblock, and copperplate printing to express themes such as "travel," "nature," "land," and "memory" with rich poetic sentiment.

His precise, highly symbolic compositions and serene, deep imagery were highly acclaimed both in Japan and abroad. Starting with his participation in the 4th São Paulo Art Biennial in 1957, he garnered attention at exhibitions around the world, including the Ljubljana International Biennial of Graphic Arts and the Tokyo International Biennial Exhibition of Prints. With numerous international awards, he is one of the pioneers who paved the way for contemporary Japanese printmaking to take flight on the global stage.
