Yuji Hiratsuka was born in 1954 in Osaka, Japan, and graduated from Tokyo Gakugei University. In 1985, he moved to the United States to pursue graduate degrees in printmaking at New Mexico State University (MA) and Indiana University (MFA). Hiratsuka has taught printmaking and drawing at several universities since 1987. He retired as a professor of printmaking at Oregon State University, Corvallis. He received numerous awards in international competitions. He has had 14 solo shows in the United States and international solo shows in Gabrovo, Bulgaria, Munich, Germany, and Geneva, Switzerland.
