Mr. Tolman's

PRINT of the MONTH

Dear long time clients of the Tolman Collection,

Tamekane Yoshikatsu (b. 1959) is not a newcomer to our gallery - in fact, we have been representing him and his colorful woodblock prints for twenty years since 2001.  As a matter of introduction I am happy to say that the artist is as cheerfully pleasant as is his work, which has proven to be as popular with many art connoisseurs as it is with “regular people” who are also taken with the imaginative compositions created by the artist.  In his woodblock prints Tamekane throws caution to the wind and brings forth pieces that conjure up one’s imagination as is common in Japanese prints.

The piece shown, “A Flux” employs a rainbow of color and while the viewer is busy counting how many colors he can identify, he may miss the fact that the artist has simply represented a sword guard (ken tsuba). Tamekane-san has exhibited widely in Japan, and the United States and has shown repeatedly with The Tolman Collection from 2001.
